The Secret is ….. Your Posture. Yes, it’s what your mum and your schoolteachers told you to do! You did it for a while and then you ignored it. It was good advice.
Good posture instantly makes you look more confident, taller and healthier. Yes, and younger. Plus your clothes look better on you. When you practise good posture, you look as if you have instantly lost weight and inches.
The key to good posture is consciously practising the skill. Conscious practice creates habits. Habits create who you are.
Health books and magazines often include exercises to build good posture. An alternative is to join a yoga class or Pilates or any other technique that appeals to you.
Here’s one simple exercise you can practise daily to improve your posture.
- Stand barefooted with your heels, your head and as many body parts in between against an internal wall. Let your arms fall naturally by your side. Don’t hunch your shoulders. Notice how it feels for 20 – 30 seconds. Feel everything straighten.
- Pick a spot at eye level. Then walk forward from the wall for 5 – 10 paces still keeping your eyes on that spot. Concentrate on keeping your posture as straight as possible.
- Repeat as often as necessary til it becomes natural and automatic.
When you stand up as straight and tall as you can be, you will care about looking your best. You will walk into the future with confidence rather than walking with the past dragging you down.
