Have you heard of Front Back Earrings? I hadn’t until I was doing some research for another article.
Front Back Earrings are sometimes called Ear Jackets. They all mean the same thing.
It is a style where you can see a design in front of your ear as well as a back piece that falls below your ear to frame the bottom of your ear lobe.
Some come as a pair and some come as a single earring.
They will always be modern because they are unusual and not many women find or wear them.
Here’s my guide to Front Back Earrings for stylish baby boomer women.
Front Back Earrings No 1 – Drop Ball Earrings
These generally come as a pair. They have a small ball that is worn on the front of your ear and a larger ball that clips in behind your ear. The ‘Drop Ball’ term comes from the fact that the weight of the larger ball causes it to fall and show part of it below your ear.
The ones that I have found are usually classic and elegant styles.
They would suit you if you don’t like dangly earrings and are intrigued the idea of an elegant small ‘dangle’. It shows and is not a nuisance or annoyance every time you move your head. (I can relate to that.)
The earrings in the graphic are Witchery Brand ‘Double Crystal Sphere Earrings’ in Rose Gold from David Jones.
Front Back Earrings No 2 – Ear Jacket Earrings
The names may change. The meanings are the same. These can come as a pair or a single earring. They have two pieces – a small stud that shows at the front. This has a spike which is clipped into the second piece which has from one to three holes so that it can be adjusted to your ear shape and length.
The ‘Ear Jacket’ name comes from this snug fit that hugs the bottom of your ear. The definition is flexible on Etsy as designers use lots of tags to have their earrings found in search boxes.
There are beautiful, whimsical, colourful and unusual designs available.
They would suit you if you want something a little different. On the Etsy website, I think most come as a pair. Double-check before you buy. If you have a hairstyle like mine which shows one ear fully and the other is almost or fully covered, wearing one as a statement earring is a great way to bring attention to your hairstyle. Alternatively you could wear a single, small, matching stud earring on the other ear if your ear lobe is visible.
On the top left are Mimco ‘Morphette Ear Jacket’ from David Jones in Rose Gold & Crystal with 3-holes. It also comes in Silver. Underneath it is ‘Angelique’ Front and Back Stud Earring from Myer in Rose Gold & Crystal with one hole.
The top right illustration is a Boho design by Evanory on Etsy and comes in gold, silver or brass. It is one on many designs that do not hug your ear lobe. They simply sit below your ear. There are many of these styles that definitely can be worn as a pair rather than a single statement earring.
On the bottom right are examples from Etsy of two-hole Ear Jackets ‘elegantjewelbox’ in either Rhodium Plate or Sterling Silver with Swarovski Crystals. Etsy has pages of these styles. On the bottom right you can see what it looks like on your ear.
NB – Some Etsy sellers sell the back piece separately. This allows you to combine it with any of your current stud earrings.
If you haven’t already discovered Front Back Earrings, check them out. They could be that little something that adds to your unique style. Most certainly they will be a topic of conversation with other women.
