The Year in Fashion – Pantone Colours of the Year
In January I let you know that the 2016 Colour of the Year was two colours – Rose Quartz (soft warm pink) and Serenity (soft cool blue). The colours were chosen to reflect the Trend of Mindfulness. The colours reflect a Trend and because of that, are only seen in fashion when they suit the relevant season – in this case – Summer.
The Year in Fashion – New Shoe Styles
In February I introduced you to two new shoe styles – the Hidden Wedge and Flatforms. Both styles were a short lived Trend. I still love my hidden wedge casual shoes and that’s because they are so comfortable and stylish. If you find hidden wedge shoes that you like, buy them. They are slightly different and therefore, will always stay stylish.
The Year in Fashion – Athleisure Wear
In April I introduced you to Athleisure Wear – the trend of wearing gym and yoga clothes as everyday wear. From all reports it’s a dying trend as the expensive brands priced themselves out of the market. Women found cheaper, stylish options as the chain stores took to copying the trend. Women in the fitness industry still love athleisure wear for casual daywear options.
The Year in Fashion – Smartphone Shopping Comparison
In April I introduced you to Smartphone Shopping Comparison where young women are leading the way and doing comparison shopping on price, colour and style online while looking at an item instore. It may take Baby Boomer women a while to master this skill as you need to what sites to access to compare items. The simplest way to use this is to save time by bringing up the store site on your phone and going up to an assistant and saying ‘I want to try on this item.’
The Year in Fashion – New Earring Styles
I spread these new earring styles over a few Ezines. In March I introduced you to Drop Ball Earrings and Ear Jackets. In July I introduced you to Cuff Earrings and Ear Climbers. These are not Trends. They are different and unusual earrings. That makes them stylish at any time, in any year.
The Year in Fashion – Lace Trend Continued
I introduced you to the Lace Trend in 2014 and updated it in September this year. It’s now reaching the end of its fashion cycle. There are still a few lace items around. You will need to search for them. Lace never really goes out of fashion. A touch of lace always looks stylish. Full lace dresses and tops need to be partnered with modern accessorises to keep their modern edge.
The Year in Fashion – Cold Shoulder Tops
This was the last Trend for 2016 – Cold Shoulder Tops. Off the shoulder tops are an annual summer Trend that requires you to wear a strapless bra. Cold shoulder tops were popular because you could still wear your normal bra. They’ll be here for our Australian winter as they are currently featuring in the northern winter. I think they will disappear by the end of 2017. Enjoy them now while you have them.
It’s been an interesting fashion year. I wonder what 2017 will bring us.
